Courage: A companion in bad times.

Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your own shoulders, and know that you are the creator of your own destiny

-Swami Vivekananda

Courage is something that we are born with, but as time goes on, we lose faith in our own courage. If we see brave doers, we could find one common quality. That is courage. Many people gave up early in their lives; at the end, there was nothing left but the regret of not gathering courage and doing something incredible for people.

There is one incident of Swami Vivekananda during childhood. He showed bravery when children were learning about it. He bought a statue of Lord Shiva from the market. While he was returning from home, there was a horse charging towards that boy. He firmly grasps the statue in his hands and pushes the boy in order to save him. You are not going to believe that he showed this courage at the age of 6. There are infinite events of his life where he showed mind-blowing courage to face hard times. I heard that there were times in his life when he did not have a single grain of food for many days. And I cannot keep myself hungry for more than 3 hours.

Courage does not mean standing up to those who are weaker than you; rather, it means standing up to those who are stronger than you. Many people think that exerting authority over those who are under them is an act of courage. Rather, it displays weakness. No one helps you to build courage because you already have it; you just haven’t practiced it.

Let’s see what Swami Vivekananda said about courage:

“Whatever you dream of and think of, you create. If it is hell, you die and see hell. If it is evil and Satan, get a Satan. If ghosts, you get ghosts. Whatever you think, that you become.” Source

“not one step back, that is the idea. … Fight it out, whatever comes. Let the stars move from the sphere! Let the whole world stand against us! Death means only a change of garment. What of it? Thus fight! You gain nothing by becoming cowards.” Source

“Let us be brave. Know the truth and practice the truth. The goal may be distant, but awake, arise, and stop not till the goal is reached.” Source

What inspiring quotes are. Wake up every day and see yourself in the mirror and speak that you are brave. Courage is the art of sitting calmly in your seat without stirring and without getting excited when the brass band of popularity, or temporary success, or ridicule goes by your house and turns around the corner. Courage steps out of the crowd. It stands alone. Create an example of courage for others. When they see you, they see hope.
